CASE STUDIES
The client
The Slattery Media Group - The Thoroughbred Magazine
The audience
The Thoroughbred is posted to owners and breeders of racehorses in Australia. The images are also used on The Thoroughbred website.
The challenge
For a feature article on-well known horse dentist, Mark Burnell, the photographer was required to capture Burnell going about his day to day activities as well as capturing a strong sense of his character.
Our approach
Before any shots were taken, Burnell described his job and his day-to-day routine. This provided information about his job but also enabled us to gauge his character and familiarise ourselves with his persona. This also encouraged Burnell to relax in front of the camera. By posing Burnell in a stable setting with tools of his trade and other related objects, this outcome was achieved. The shoot was on location at one of Burnell's clients stables. The job required a lighting set-up, so early arrival and preparation was paramount to ensure great results.
The result
Was a series of creative photographs – by Michael Willson – that captured the essence of Burnell and his occupation. The images contributed powerfully to a great feature article for the magazine.
